Barbara Stauffacher Solomon is a San Francisco based artist, graphic and landscape designer, and writer. Her work mixes Californian Pop with Swiss Modernism into California Cool.
In the 1960s, at The Sea Ranch, she created SUPERGRAPHICS where supersized contentless stripes, arrows, and letterforms fly from one wall to the next to the ceiling to become art people can stroll into. Her 2018 SUPERGRAPHIC at BAMPFA can be seen from the street and museum lobby, free, and her recently repainted walls of the woman’s locker room invite women to walk in, take off their clothes, and shower in a giant Blue Wave. In the 1900a, she began making PLAYS ON A PAGE where consecutive drawings of sets, characters, and seriously silly dialogue typeset, cut-&-pasted onto small pages of 8 1/2”x11” paper, became seven 8 1/2”x11” art books full of content.
Her recent one-woman show RELAX INTO THE INVISIBLE at the LAXART GALLERY in Hollywood will be exhibited at THE GRAHAM FOUNDATION in Chicago April 2020.
