Details:
Before algorithms curated our feeds, before design was flattened into endless scroll, there was print—intentional, tactile, and enduring. Few publications have shaped the visual language of modern design quite like Communication Arts. Join Patrick Coyne for a special conversation moderated by Lauren Moeller, tracing the roots of Communication Arts and its deep ties to Silicon Valley. Founded in Palo Alto, the publication helped define what “good design” looked like across graphic design, advertising, typography, and illustration, elevating the work of creatives at a time when the region’s identity was still taking shape.Join us!
Hosted at Moon Creative Lab, this talk reflects on how a print publication became a cultural anchor for the design community—documenting, critiquing, and celebrating the work that would go on to influence generations. Together, we’ll explore the early intersections of design and innovation in the Valley, the role of editorial curation in shaping taste and standards, and what it meant to be seen—truly seen—before the era of instant publishing. In a moment where everything is immediate and ephemeral, this is a chance to revisit the foundations: the people, the perspectives, and the printed pages that helped define an industry.ABOUT COMMUNICATION ARTS:

In addition, the Richard and Jean Coyne Family Foundation was established in 1990 to increase diversity in visual communications.
