Heath Ceramics
2900 18th Street
San Francisco
Held in Heath’s San Francisco Mission District tile factory, this intense two-day workshop will introduce, develop and enhance skills that will help conquer any creative challenge. Participants will spend one full day each with master lettering artist Ken Barber and master screen printer David Dodde.
Ken’s one-day session will provide a detailed introduction to formal and informal script styles as well as trademark House Industries tips, tricks and lettering recipes. Participants will hone their drawing skills as they create one-of-a-kind hand-rendered wordmarks by referencing various tools, techniques and models. In addition to a comprehensive slide presentation, drawing demonstration, and helpful exercises, participants will receive one-on-one personal instruction as they acquire a practical foundation for drawing and utilizing script lettering in assorted design applications.
House Industries screen printing virtuoso David Dodde will spend a day sharing his three decades of screen printing experience and expertise derived from bringing ridiculous House Industries ideas to life. Participants will explore innovative techniques and subtleties of the perfect pull by working with paper and wood objects.
All workshop participants will receive free admission to an evening event at Heath Ceramics on September 15 that features a lively lecture by House Industries founders Rich Roat and Andy Cruz and their longtime co-conspirator Ken Barber. California’s own Mattson2 will help kick off this event with a live performance.
Each session is limited to 18 participants. Please email for group discounts for four or more people.
Lunch will be served on both days.
