Julia (Hoo-Lee-Yah) Fernandez (she/her) is an interdisciplinary designer, content creator, and vulnerable speaker. She is currently a Product Design Intern at Facebook Reality Labs for Oculus and a senior at Academy of Art University (Class of December 2021). She is the co-founder of Students of UXD—an online design community that helps make the world of human-centered design more human. Julia was previously at Wish as a Growth Design Intern and a Product Designer at Arcade. She was named by GDUSA as a 2021 “Student to Watch,” was a hand-picked candidate for the 2020 AIGA Portfolio Review Festival, and has since been a guest speaker at various design events for the AIGA and beyond.
Julia is an ally to her users, creating thoughtful designs that are empathetic, engaging, and empowering to solve problems that she is passionate about. She is a design conversationalist—creating vulnerable discussions that help to demystify the design industry through her own web series, #DesignDiaries available on Youtube.
Born in the Philippines and raised as a Third Culture Kid, Julia currently lives in San Francisco, California.
