About Levi Strauss & Co.
Lynn Downey has been the Levi Strauss & Co. Historian since 1989. In this role Lynn acquires and preserves historical clothing, documents, and photographs going back to origin of the company in 1853. Join us as Lynn goes through select items from theArchives and talks us through how the Levi’s® brand has evolved since the company created the first blue jean in 1873.
Among the books she has written for Levi’s are ’501: The Evolution of the Jean’ and ‘Levi Strauss & Co.: Images of America’. She has also co-authored ‘This is a Pair of Levi’s Jeans’, a coffee table tome about the history of the Levi’s brand. She was also the consultant on two authoritative books about the history of jeans: ‘Denim: From Cowboys to Catwalks’ by Paul Trynka and ‘Jeans: The Cultural History of an American Icon’ by James Sullivan.
Lynn has also appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” to discuss the value and collectibility of vintage Levi’s products.
