Interactive Chats: Create truly dynamic web sites without getting buried in technology
This Spring, AIGA San Francisco is launching a new series of evening events that will focus on interactive design topics. Intended for designers with beginning to intermediate experience with designing and building for the web, tablet and mobile environments, each event will give you the chance to learn from local experts as well as share your own knowledge with other attendees.
The sessions will be a combination of lecture, discussion, and workshop activities, so bring your sketch pads and thinking caps.
Create truly dynamic web sites without getting buried in technology
Speaker: Michael Slater, President & CEO, Webvanta
If you’re like many experienced designers, you grew up with print and want to focus on your creative skills, rather than on web technologies. Yet to have an effective design practice today, you must create websites, and your clients’ expectations are increasingly complex. The good news is that you don’t need to deal with all the technical details of the web to design great websites. However, you do need to embrace the conceptual language of the web, learning what each technology does and what it is capable of, so you can create modern designs and work effectively with an implementation partner.
In this talk, Michael Slater, who has helped designers build hundreds of cutting-edge websites, will give a quick tour of what graphic designers need to know about web technologies, including the opportunities presented by HTML5, CSS3, jQuery, database-driven design, and the mobile web. He’ll also provide tips on how to document your designs so they can be efficiently built in a way that fulfills your creative vision.
