Interactive Chats: Designing for Tablet Experiences, Night 1
SORRY, THIS EVENT SOLD OUT IN RECORD TIME. WE ARE EXPLORING THE OPTION TO REPEAT IT AT A LATER DATE.
NOTE: This is a two-night workshop sold as one event, April 18 and April 21.
This Spring, AIGA San Francisco is launching a new series of evening events that will focus on interactive design topics. Intended for designers with beginning to intermediate experience with designing and building for the web, tablet and mobile environments, each event will give you the chance to learn from local experts as well as share your own knowledge with other attendees.
The sessions will be a combination of lecture, discussion, and workshop activities, so bring your sketch pads and thinking caps.
Designing for Tablet Experiences
Speakers: Paul Smith & Henrik Olsen
If you’re ready to jump into designing for tablets, this will be a great two-part workshop for you. Given the mass adoption of tablet devices over this past year – and the growing interest within the AIGA SF community – this workshop has been created to present the fundamentals of designing tablet applications as well as tablet optimized web sites.
After starting with a quick pizza dinner, the workshop, run by Henrik Olsen and Paul Smith of Hot Studio, will address topics such as: the fundamentals of tablet hardware, visual interface best practices, gesture mapping, interaction and structure flows, prototyping tools, screen resolution issues, and a few case studies from Hot Studio’s portfolio.
On the second night of the workshop, participants will go through a rapid ideation process in which they will brainstorm ideas for their own iPad app, sketch out interfaces, and participate in group critiques of one another’s concepts.
The workshop is intended for designers who are relatively new to interaction design and creating apps. The focus will be on designing the user interface, and not on the technical development. Additionally, the workshop will primarily focus on the iPad device. (yes, we know there are many others, but time is limited)
Schedule:
6:00 – 6:30pm: pizza & drinks
6:30 – 8:00pm: presentation
8:00 – 8:30pm: Q&A and discussion
NOTE: This is a two-night workshop. Participants will be sketching with pencil & paper in this workshop (no computers needed). This will not be an engineering/technical oriented workshop.
