Design Lecture Series: David R. Butler

As an added benefit for our AIGA members, we are allowing them to buy tickets to the June DLS event ahead of the general public. We will start general admission sales on May 27, 2010.

The San Francisco chapter of AIGA, the professional association for design, presents the 2010 Design Lecture Series. This year’s DLS will be comprised of four lectures, sponsored and held at Adobe San Francisco.

David R. Butler is Vice President, Global Design, for the Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta, Georgia.

David is responsible for how we think and what we do with design at The Coca-Cola Company. This includes leading the global vision and strategy for design, building the organization’s capability and external reputation as a Design-Driven company, and leading the Global Design function.

He began his career as a graphic designer developing identity systems and print communications and then focused on web-based media with the rise and fall of the dot-com era. He then followed his interest in brand strategy to build a global brand consulting group with Studio Archetype, then Sapient in New York City. His experience spans between design to purpose and vision development to brand and business strategy to customer-experience innovation.

Clients have included the International Olympic Committee, UPS, Gucci, CNN, Cartoon Network, Bank of America, Catepillar, United Airlines and AT+T. David has also lectured over the last ten years as an adjunct professor and member of the Board of Advisors at Portfolio Center, a leading post-graduate design and media architecture school in America. His work has been recognized and featured in leading design and business publications including Communication Arts, Print, How, AIGA, The Type Directors Club, The One Show, ADDY awards, Design Management Journal and The Industry Standard.

David is a frequent lecturer and active member of the Board of Directors at the Museum of Design, Atlanta. For over a decade, David has also been an advocate for design education as an adjunct professor and member of the Board of Advisors at Portfolio Center. He holds a BA in Mass Communications from the University of South Florida.
