Design Lecture Series: Ben Watts

New York based photographer, Ben Watts, immigrated to New York in 1995. He has enjoyed a brilliant career working for some of the most prestigious publications and advertising clients in the global market place.
Born in London, England in 1967, Ben was a student at the Sydney College of the Arts from 1985-1990. He began his photographic Career in Australia, first working as a photographer’s assistant, but soon began taking his own commissions for Australian Elle and Australian Vogue.
Fascinated by American Hip Hop culture he came to New York in 1990 and started documenting Urban Youth Culture, hitting the streets and clubs of the city in his attempt to capture his subjects on film. He moved to NYC in 1995, and has since shot ad campaigns for Nike, Apple, Jockey, Polo Ralph Lauren Kodak, The Gap, Sony, Interscope, Geffen, Capitol/EMI, Saks Fifth Avenue and Victoria’s Secret among others.
His images grace the pages of leading fashion magazines such as Elle, Marie Claire, Glamour, GQ, Vanity Fair, and Esquire. His Celebrity roster is endless. Ben has shot leading figures in film and entertainment for Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, In Style, Interview, Jalouse, Arena, ID, Vibe, Billboard and The New York Times Magazine.
His work has been won acclaim in the fine art world as well. The release of his first published book BIG UP was met with rave reviews. Ben’s work has been a part of the Whitney Biennial in Mexico, Photo Du Monde in Paris and is features on the Austrian Fine Art Site: Photographer’s Limited Editions.
