Join us as we get a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of some very influential Bay Area design studios during our Studio Tours. See projects in progress, learn about different firms’ cultures and methodologies, and rub elbows with design luminaries and up-and-comings in the environment that inspires their best work.

Play, Pause, Stop, Fast Forward, Rewind.

The circle, square and angled triangle are design’s unsung heroes from the last 50 years. These shapes are the heartbeat of UI/UX and have become the enduring interface symbols that control our devices – and ultimately our world. As designers we must balance our passion for challenging expectations and creating positive change against predictable utility and consistent understanding. And we must also contend with the inertia of design history. What does the future hold for these symbolic shapes that control everything? How can we design the future through our digital experiences? We would love to know what you think.

Forest Young, Wolff Olins’ Creative Director in San Francisco, will be leading a discussion about this topic which is one of his great passions and sources of inspiration. Forest came to Wolff Olins this year having previously led design at West in New York alongside Allison Johnson, former Apple CMO. He is a Critic in design at the Yale School of Art and a former Board Member of the AIGA/NY. Forest writes about the intersection of design, technology and culture for TechCrunch, VentureBeat and Grafik, and is a speaking alum of SXSW, Yale GreenLight and Icograda.
