This month, we’re talking MYSTERY with writer/designer Melody Stone.

We are comforted by certainty and seek it frantically like a child that lost sight of their parents. But as the astrophysicist Marcelo Gleiser said in The Island of Knowledge, "We strive toward knowledge, always more knowledge, but must understand that we are, and will remain, surrounded by mystery.” Indeed, gaze at the stars, at old traditions, or ponder the modern behaviors encouraged by technology, and you might have trouble understanding or explaining it. By engaging with mystery the way we flip through a new book, we allow our lives to expand.

The theme was chosen by our CreativeMorning’s Houston chapter and illustrated by Joseph Alessio. Book your ticket Monday, Jan 9 and join us for the talk on MYSTERY at CLARA.

As the astrophysicist Marcelo Gleiser said in The Island of Knowledge, 'We strive toward knowledge, always more knowledge, but must understand that we are, and will remain, surrounded by mystery.'"

Melody Stone,
Melody Stone’s childhood homes ranged from the Navajo reservation in Arizona to a small mining town in Mongolia and a few places in between. With a background in story telling and graphic design Melody started a curiosity-based story series at Capital Public Radio about the weird things you see on the side of the road. Dubbed “Roadside Distractions,” she’s found the mysteries behind the Milk Farm in Dixon and the Ocean City MD. sign as well an abandoned paddle boat off Garden Highway. She loves following her curiosity where it leads and transforming what she finds into stories for audio and web.
